The Not-for-Profit Choice

Not-for-Profit homes and services, sponsored by religious organizations, fraternal groups, and other not-for-profit agencies, have provided care and services to older people throughout our nation’s history. Not-for-profit facilities are mission-driven organizations, dedicated to enriching the lives of those they serve.

Oklahoma not-for-profit organizations provide services across the continuum of care: senior housing, assisted living, nursing facility, continuing care retirement communities, adult day services, and home and community-based services.

Not-for-profit facilities emphasize individual attention, high quality services and supportive environments which provide opportunities to maintain independence, dignity, and self-respect. The spirit of community that prevails provides individuals with a sense of belonging and the reassurance of knowing you are not alone.

Not-for-profit facilities encourage residents to be as active and independent as their abilities permit. They recognize that long-term care, housing, and community services should be tailored to individual needs.

Not-for-profit homes and services are governed by community-based board of trustees who are all volunteers. These men and women donate their time and talent to ensure that a not-for-profit organization’s approach to caring for older people responds to local needs. Not-for-profit facilities exist for only one reason: to provide high quality services for their residents. They turn any surplus income back into improving facilities or expanding services.

The Oklahoma Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (OKAHSA), organized in 1993, represents over 100 not-for-profit, private, fraternal, religious, and government-sponsored nursing facilities, assisted living, retirement communities, housing, and adult day service centers.

OKAHSA members serve more than 8,000 persons in facility-based settings. Association members employ over 85,000 people and involve countless volunteers.

"Experience the Not-for-Profit Difference"

The not-for-profit approach to care places emphasis on providing an atmosphere of fellowship and caring; on meeting the social, physical, and spiritual needs of the individual; and on helping older persons achieve the dignity and quality of life that they deserve in their retirement years. The emphasis on caring and on placing the need of the individual above all else has become the hallmark of not-for-profit homes and services for the aging.

Advocates for the Aging

Through face-to-face advocacy and grassroots campaigns, we educate policy makers on health, housing assisted living, home and community-based services and care.

Our advocacy agenda is clear: to advance policy that ensures quality services for seniors, encourages advance planning, integrates delivery systems and eliminates red tape for the people we serve.
